Waimate is the centre of the South
Island of New Zealand - situated halfway between Christchurch, Dunedin and Queenstown.
Waimate is about 10 kilometres inland and 47 metres above sea level. The town
boasts over 50 shops and follows
an Edwardian theme with a collection of early 1900's buildings lining the main street.
With tourism on the increase, Waimate's economy
attracts independent travellers
to the area and several major events
are organised annually to attract people into the district. |

Knottingley Park is a great place for cricket, horse events, kennel club shows, camping, picnics and walking. There is a BBQ available (50c coin operated). Knottingley Park also has a replica of an early bush hut built in 1864 and has an extensive playground. Knottingley Park is situated on Waihao Back Road, via Gorge Road |

The Norman Kirk Memorial Swimming Pool is an outdoor heated pool with temperatures between 28-32 degrees.
The pool complex offers plenty of seating, grassed area, BBQ area, shaded paddling pool for toddlers and shop.
During the holidays the pool runs fun days for the children. |

The Waimate Historical Museum is home to many buildings several of which have been shifted on site. These include the old Douglas school, Bremners Cottage, and together with the old jail and police cells house a diversity of displays depicting life and times of old Waimate. Other displays include horse drawn vehicles, maintenance sheds, hospital medical displays. |
